What is Chi Kung?

I regularly teach clients tips to come home to themselves, from the world of Qigong.  In good weather I hold Qigong walks and sessions in the open spaces in and around Basel Stadt & Baselland. Chi Kung, or Qi Gong (translated as energy work in English) is an ancient Chinese form of exercise that promotes the flow of Chi (vital energy) through the body. Qi Gong,  can be described as “meditation in motion”. It comprises exercises for stretching and mobilising the joints, breathing techniques, slow movements, static postures and special walking methods. It originates from Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as Taoist and Buddhist philosophies. Chi Kung has simple movements and each action is aimed at increasing energy levels and can target specific organs. The forms take their inspiration from animals and nature and can look very elegant. The approach I practise and teach is Elemental Chi Kung, which encourages flow and fluidity through movement, stillness, meditation and breath. The aim is to create space to allow our essential nature to express itself, resulting in a feeling of coming home to oneself, connecting with one’s inherent health.
